A meeting of the Central Disaster Management
Committee was held on 28/11/07 with Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed, convener
of the committee, in the chair. Welcoming all members present the chair
heartily thanked all members of the committee who, in their individual
capacity, extended all possible assistance to the people affected by the
flood of August 07. He also acknowledged and lauded spontaneous
contributions made in this regard by our expatriate brothers and sisters
who, uniting under a humanitarian movement named “Firiye Ano Bangladesh’
always pledge and deliver substantive aid to their afflicted compatriots
in times of natural calamities. Thanksgiving being over the chair called
upon all present to discuss at length three main issues and take
resolution thereon. Agenda wise proceedings of the discussion are given
as under:
- The meeting reviewed the report on post flood
relief and rehabilitation program implemented by the CDMC and
expressed satisfaction on its successful completion.
- The meeting also reviewed the financial
statement relating to implementation of the aforesaid program.
- A report containing details about relief
operations conducted by the volunteers and animators in the flood
affected areas was also reviewed. It was followed by eye-witness
account of the post disaster situation prevailing in the affected
areas. Post-disaster activities of GOB as well as NGOs were also
discussed.
In the light of
discussions mentioned above the following resolutions were taken:
- The meeting approved the report on post flood
relief and rehabilitation program.
- To scrutinize the financial accounts of the
program a two-member audit team, including Mr. Jahagir Alam Basunia
and Mr. S.M.A Mueed was formed with instructions to examine all
relevant papers on December I, 07.
- The Committee will sit again on December 06,
2007 to discuss and finalize both short-term and long- term post
disaster programs to be implemented in the SIDR struck areas. In the
same sitting the committee will also review reports to be submitted
by members of other organizations that have teamed up with CDMC and
who have already taken part in post disaster relief operations in
the SIDR hit areas.
- All present were requested to collect, in
their individual capacity cash and materials for distribution among
the SIDR affected people. Collectors of these items may either
deposit them directly with the The Hunger Project-Bangladesh for
distribution or distribute the same themselves through coordination
cell opened by CDMC.
- All donations made to CDMC will be received
after issuing proper money receipts.
- Donation will also be received at Standard
Chartered Bank, The Hunger Project, A/C No. 05-5125189-01.
The agenda –wise discussion and decision making
thereon being over the meeting came to an end with the Chair thanking
all present for their wise deliberations and active cooperation.
